This is an interesting take on the whole Tea Cups ride idea. It’s very similar to Francis’ Ladybug Boogie in Disney’s California Adventure. I hope they don’t make it part of the DCA expansion – the whole new Cars area – as that would be pretty redundant.

NASIOC forum member psychochild has a great post on using Photoshop to turn your daily commuter into a happy go lucky car from the movie Cars. It’s not for the faint of heart as it uses Photoshop features well beyond cropping and resizing, but with a little faith, a little trust and maybe a handful of pixie dust, your car could be Carsified.

If you don’t have Photoshop and don’t want to slap down a couple hundred dollars just to experiment, try using the Gimp. It’s a free photo open source photo editing program that can easily do everything required in this tutorial. You may have to search the menus for the exact commands, but they are there.

The popular Pixar blog, Luxo, has posted a link to a very fun interactive advent calendar hosted off the Disney UK site. An advent calendar is one where you open a door a day until Christmas and behind each door is a little piece of candy, usually chocolate. This one has a sound bite from a Cars character behind each door.

If you haven’t read The Long Tail, you should. It’s a fascinating book on what I believe will dictate the future of economics especially on the Internet. Author Chris Anderson had a chance to sit down with a friend at Pixar and found an interesting fact. He found out that in 1995 it took two hours to render a frame from the movie Toy Story. Read his post to find out how long it took to render a frame from Cars.

I won’t ruin it for anyone but if you haven’t seen the hidden video on the Cars DVD, its definitely worth checking out. I just wish it was a little longer. Here’s how you get to it:

On the DVD’s Main Menu simply wait and let the menu run through a few times. Eventually, a ‘Dinoco’ logo will appear in the lower right corner of the screen that you can select by pressing the ‘Right’ arrow key on your remote control. After highlighting it and pressing the ‘Enter’ key it will give you access to a short clip

I recently picked up Cars for the Xbox 360. I’ve had the Xbox since it came out last year and this is the first and only game I’ve purchased. Having a 3 year old and 1 year old makes it difficult to kill zombies or shoot at people with AK-47s. This is really been the first non-mature game that has appealed to me.

The game is made up of mini games and piston cup races. It’s fun but a little easy. As Lightning McQueen, you get to drive all over Radiator Springs and collect trophies. I’ve also been able to drive as Mater, Sally and the Sherif. For a full review check out VGGen.com.

If you have an XBOX 360 and are a XBOX live gold member you can download a demo for the Cars game. Since I am a silver member, I can’t download it for another week. I have had my XBOX 360 for almost a year and am still yet to buy a game. I will download Cars though as soon as I can. Maybe it will be my first game purchase.

If you have considered buying a movie off Apple’s iTunes store, read this comparison. Mark Caro purchased and downloaded Pixar’s Cars from iTunes and purchased the actual DVD from the store. He compares point by point the following features:

• Picture and sound quality – Winner: DVD
• Flexibility – Winner: DVD
• Convenience – Winner: Download
• Extras – Winner: DVD
• Ads and Trailers before the movie – Winner: Download

His verdict is that right now, DVDs have the advantage but if download services figure out a few items, they will be the clear winner in the not to distant future.

On Tuesday, Apple released their new version of iTunes which now offers movie downloads. The only movie studio on board right now is of course Disney. This is probably because Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple, also sits on the board of Disney and is the single largest individual share holder.

The movies are priced at $9.99 for current movies, $12.99 for pre-orders and $14.99 for new releases. Cars is already available for pre-order. The movies are in 640×480 resolution which is what a traditional TV displays at but that doesn’t mean you can watch these on your TV. You can’t burn them to DVD and unless you are going to connect your PC or Mac directly to the TV, you are stuck watching them on either you computer monitor or your iPod. In the first 3 months of 2007, Apple will release their iTV. This will allow you to stream these movies – as well as the rest of your iTunes collection – to your TV.

There are a total of 75 movies available as of today.

Luxo is pointing to Route 66 which is pointing to Tom Cochrane’s website which has his original video for the song, “Life is a Highway.” I’m ashamed to admit that I really liked the song back when it first came out. I’m glad its semi-cool now.
