John Lasseter Interviewed by the Los Angeles Times
John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer for Disney, was recently interviewed by the LA Times about his recent nomination and winning of a Golden Globe for the Pixar movie, Cars. Besides for the fun loving jokes in the interview, I found this comment in response to animation receiving respect particularly interesting:
Absolutely. Both of these organizations see there are a number of studios producing quality feature films in animation that it warrants an award. Back in the day, when Disney was the only studio consistently making animated films, it would have been like giving an Oscar or Golden Globe to one studio. It’s a testament to the industry as a whole that there are a number of studios producing quality films. This year we have 16 animated films released, which is absolutely remarkable.
It’s obvious that animation is no longer a Disney game and it’s awesome that Disney’s head of animation understands this.
