Scooby-Doo Designer Iwao Takamoto Passes Away

The designer of Scooby-Doo passed away today at the age of 81. He has a long and storied career including a beginning at Disney.

Takamoto trained under Disney’s legendary “Nine Old Men,” including Ollie Johnston, Marc Davis, Milt Kahl, Ward Kimball, Frank Thomas and Eric Lawson. While at Disney, Takamoto worked on animated shorts as well as such features as Cinderella, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty and 101 Dalmatians.

From Disney, Takamoto went on to Hanna-Barbera studios where he created Scooby-Doo. While at Hanna-Barbera, he also worked on The Jetsons and The Flintstones.
