I think I know this map! If I remember right - it used to hang in hotel rooms in the late 70’s. When I was a kid, my family would stay at the Polynesian in a room that had 2 queens + a day bed along the wall oposite the balcony. This map used to hang on that wall above the day bed. I remember it being about 4′ wide by 3′ tall. Nice to find - been looking for a copy of it for a long time now.

It’s probably from right before or right after the Resort first opened in 1971. I can see the Venetian and Persian resorts which were planned for construction a few years later.

Yes, I visited WDW in July 1972 & this map hung above the bed in the Contemporary Hotel. It was about 4′ wide & 3′ tall. Very neat. I wanted to take it home, but no such luck.

I actually own one of those maps that hung in the rooms. I have never seem or heard of anyone else having one and I am curious how much they are worth. I search the web every so often to see if I can find one and this is the first time I’ve seen it mentioned at all. Any ideas?
Thanks

What is that structure marked C that the monorail goes to? It’s at the East and just outside of the Magic Kingdom? Anybody have any ideas where I could find one? I just found and bought the 1958-B Disneyland poster yesterday!

This is a great map, it’s exactly what I was looking for thank you.

Oh I know it’s a bit late, but if anyone still wants to know about the monorail section marked “B” it’s the Transit Authority. The “hub” that you land after you take the Tram from the Magic Kingdom parking lot.

Oh Ben was asking about “C” that’s the Contemporary Resort, this is the one and only resort where you can walk right up to Magic Kingdom, it is also the single original resort to Walt Disney World.

Thanks for filling that in Elizabeth

No, The Contemporary is the one marked “I”

Did some research. It was a hotel that never made it out of the planning stage. It would have been Persian themed. It reminds me of the section in the east of The Disney Sea Park in Tokyo, which is absolutely unbelievable. I guess what is marked as 10 is another planned resort that never saw daylight. It seems that all this adds to the appeal of the map. Nice find!

This is amazing! I rememer this from my first visit in 1979, when we stayed at the Contemporary. I was fixated on it for the entire stay, I slept on the day bed it hung above. I saw this on ebay about a month ago and it was selling for tens of thousands (!) It is great to see it here. You can also buy a MK map by what seems to be the same artist in the parks. It is on those touch screen Disney Art computers under concept art. Peace…

Chad, that is awesome. I’m not sure I would bid $100 without seeing it in person though. Definitely a unique item though.

I was the highest bidder until about 15 minutes before the end of the auction. It went for $255. I am guessing that before lond Disney starts selling reprints of this at the parks. Thanks for the heads up though, Chad.

Any clue how I can get one or a reproduction??
Chad May 26th 2008 at 10:19 pm 19
Check out http://wdwmap.com for the reproductions. There are 2 sizes and more detail about the map.

I recently purcased one from wdwmap.com and it is incredible! I am having it framed as we speak. It is like having an amazing, lost part of my childhood back. It is so obscure, I cannot believe I own a repro of it. Check out the site, you will be glad you did.

I have one of the original maps. The reproduction looks really good.
The only major difference, as I told the seller is the size.
The actual map is exactly 4 ft x 5 ft. I’d love to know how
he came up with such a good repro. I’ve had numerous people
ask me for head-on pictures of my map so they could reproduce
it, but I doubt anyone got such results.

There is an original map inside the Magic Kingdom, but it is in the Tunnels. This is a Cast only area, and the map is actually in the back of the Disney learning Centre, i have pictures of it from when i was a cast member!!! I love this map and would love one hanging in my room!!!!
