Subscribe to Disney Comics

After a recent eBay purchase of a 1990 Ducktales comic book, I decided to investigate Disney Comic books a little more. My 3 year old daughter has really taken a liking to the few I have and wanted to see what else was available. I found Gemstone/Disney Comics where you can subscribe to a few different series. $35 for 12 issues seems expensive to me but I’m not familiar with buying comics so maybe not.

I also found this site which tracks 1074 titles in 93 countries. Its pretty comprehensive and there is some really neat looking comic books.

Yeah, it’s crazy how expensive comic books have gotten over the years… the “upside” being that $3 per book is the typical price these days, and Gemstone is rare in that they’re charging that with only 1-4 house ads in each book. (By way of comparison, the “big guys” like Marvel and DC typically have upwards of 10 pages per book dedicated to ads.) Still, three dollars is quite a bit more than the ten cents you used to be able to get a book for!

Anyway, if you happen to get any of Gemstone’s books, I’d love to hear what you think of them! (I have a 3-year-old daughter as well, and she loves the books! The 128-page take-alongs seem to be her favorites, as they’re easier for her little hands to hold steady.)
