I have blogged about the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival here and here both prior to the opening festival to officially launch 2006’s festival. On April 21st, Epcot held a press conference to launch the festival. Laughing Place has posted video and pictures from the opening ceremonies that seem to mostly be focused on the new postal stamps. There are four news stamps all based off romance (as is this years Flower and Garden Festival).

Disney Goes Mobile With Pirates – Socaltech.com is reported that Disney is releasing a new multi player game for the cell phone. I think Disney has done an awesome job exploring new avenues to market and promote the new Pirates movies. Have you seen their myspace page?

You may have noticed the Flickr images on the sidebar. I have taken that one step further and added a new pictures page. When you visit the new page, you will get a flash application that shows a slideshow of images. All images are publicly shared Flickr images that have been tagged with any of the following keywords: Disney, Disneyland, Disney World, DisneySea, Disney Paris, Disney Hong Kong.
You’ll also notice the small box in the lower left of the slide show. If you click on that you can change the slideshow to some images of collectibles I have obtained. I hope to grow these images simply by taking more pictures of items I have.

The Mickey News site posted Monday some facts about the new Everest Ride. I think the level of detail they put into this attraction shows a dedication that is constantly in question over at the re-imagineering blog. I don’t disagree that Disney could affect some changes over at Disneyland to possibly restore some of the park to its more vintage state but its not always as bad as they make it seem.

I’ve added a new page specific to links to Disney related sites. The goal of the Disney Frontier is to bring you interested and cool disney content whether that is vintage pictures, videos, articles or links. Many of the cool content I have blogged about so far are found on the sites listed on this page. I will always add to this page as necessary and – sooner then later – add the link banners that some of these sites offer

This is a very interesting webpage. This Russian site has taken still frames from various movies and compared them to other movies and found that many of the exact scenes are the same. The difference is obviously with the detail. I guess this lets them focus more on the story and less on the actual animations. Anyway, give it a look as it is very cool to see these frames side by side – like Mowgli from Jungle Book in the same poses as Christopher Robins in a Pooh movie.

Disneyland.com has a page showing which attractions and restaurants were available when Disneyland first opened. I think Disney has made more of a concerted effort to appeal to people like me who are into the vintage aspects of the parks due to the 50th anniversary celebrations.

In the 1960s you could get a burger from the Redwagon Inn for $1.40. The Stuff from the Park blog has recently posted pictures of the full lunch menu. The menu has a lime green look with a neat design on the front. I really like the font used on the cover.
The Red Wagon Inn served a lot of sandwidches and some fish too. It was a fine dining restaurant that many dignitaries were taken to during their visits to Disneyland.
If you go to Disneyland today, you won’t find the Red Wagon Inn. In 1965 it was remodeled and renamed the Plaza Inn. They current do Character Breakfasts there as well as serve lunch and dinner.

Mousetimes.com has a new pictorial of Walt Disney World taken April 15th, 2006. There are 26 pictures from around the park. I especially enjoyed the pictures that showcased the Flower & Festival Garden – notice the flowers in the screenshot at the base of the Monorail.
Mousetimes.com has 42 pictorials from Disneyland and Disney World and one pictorial that is devoted to just Disneyland wallpapers.

These vintage photos/scans of a 1940 Popular Science Magazine describe some of the technology used at the time to help produce the movie Pinocchio. The photos included in the article are a must see.

I’m excited about my new acquisition. Yesterday, I received my new – its hard to call anything made in 1958 new – Disneyland Park Map. I bought it off of eBay for under $10. It also came with a summer schedule brochure that included the times for the fireworks display and on the back describes which park ticket book would be best for you and your family (more about park tickets).
Here is the image from the original ebay auction:
I am completely amazed at the quality. No extra folds or tears. The paper feels nice in the hands. I couldn’t have expected more. I have already framed the map and now just have to decide where to hang it. I framed it in a frame that would allow you to see both sides as the back side contains all the extras on a park map like restaurant and land descriptions. Here is a picture in the frame (sorry for the quality of the picture):
